SUCCESSFUL LAUNCH OF SPRITE-SAT. Ã…AC becomes the first Swedish MEMS company in Space
The Japanese H2A rocket, flight 15 made a picture perfect launch this morning placing Sprite-Sat in a 700 km orbit. Included on Sprite-Sat is the "TAMU" MEMS subsystem built by Ã…AC and provided to Tohoku University.
First ground contact with Sprite-Sat was established 1 hours after lift-off and all systems indicate normal status. Ã…AC is eagerly awaiting "TAMU ON" to be sent to the spacecraft later today.
"We have finally pushed through the space industry catch 22 or also known as the valley of death. The problem that you cannot fly anything that hasn't flown before. We are now rapidly approaching world leading status in the field of MEMS for space thanks to funding from the Swedish National Space Board, VINNOVA, and the Swedish Defence Materiel Administration (FMV)", says Dr Fredrik Bruhn, CEO of Ã…AC.
The preliminary data from TAMU will be presented at the global MEMS workshop CANEUS 2009, which will take place early March at NASA Ames Reserch Center in the U.S.
Sweden based Ã…AC has delivered the following components to Sprite-Sat:
- 4 wafer level packaged (WLP) microcomputers
- 3 MEMS magnetometers
- 1 magnetic RAM (MRAM) from Everspin Technologies (fm Freescale)
- 1 six-axis (6-DOF) MEMS IMU
- CAN bus
